Since this thread discuss about mkv file I would like to ask anyone who knows where is the subtitle for mkv file. I played a mkv file using Media Player Classic and there is a subtitle along with it. But if I change the setting and untick subtitle, there is no more subtitle appear. It does give me some kind of problem to convert it to avi format using virtual dub mod program because no subtitle. I really need the subtitle because I can't barely understand Japanese...

Go lowyatV2 forum and ask sifu's from there.

Actually I also don't know how to explain this to you. It's a one mkv file, without any other subtitle file (srt or sub or anything else). I can watch it using Media Player Classic with the subtitle but when I used a convertor to convert it to avi, there is no subtitle in the avi file. It seems like the mkv file is not the hardsub one and when I untick the subtitle in the MPC setting (Play ->Filters->ffd Video Decoder->Subtitle) there is no more subtitle. This setting only works for file with soft sub, not the hard sub one. So I wonder where is the subtitle for mkv file.
Just asking here. If I get lucky, someone might know. If not, I'll try to google and ask somewhere else... Very Happy

And thanks Kelvin for your suggestion (about that LowYat forum), I'll try later...

Well, I think that you're solution may be a subtitle extractor,
(I dont know what software does this so you have to google for ir)
You extract the subtitles of the .mkv file into a .srt then converte the video to .avi whille embeding the .srt or simply whatch without a hardsub..xD

taking this kind of subtitles is very easy...lots of softwares do this
The ones that are super hard to rip hard only the hardsubs...anything else is easy
